Dancing Crane, the oldest Georgian cultural center and repertory theater company in New York
We offer master classes in traditional Georgian dance, music, and theater for students of all ages, and raises awareness of these traditions through world-class performances around the five boroughs of New York. We address the needs of a growing Georgian immigrant community, offering educational programs for families and children, and providing a space for professional artists to practice and elevate their work as instructors and with our many ensembles.

New York Georgian Youth Theater Troupe performed Sherekilebi in Tblisi, Georgia this summer

Nov 24th - Lika Sirelson’s “Opa” will be performed by the Georgian youth theater.

Postponed until March: “My Georgia is Here,”
a festival of Georgian songs, happenning at the Tribecca Performing Arts Theater.
Dec 7th - A permenant installation of ancient artifacts from the Georgian Natioanl Museum will arrive at our studio.

Showcasing Georgian Arts and Tradition
Children’s School
Our goal is to continue the Georgian tradition of bringing children into the personal experience of Georgian arts. Our performance arts programs of Georgian dance, music, theater, and ballet work closely with our professional performance groups and are taught by professional artists. We also provide a good grounding in Georgian life with classes in Georgian language and culture. Our largest program is dance, but we encourage our students to participate in as many programs as they like.
Dance Ensemble
Our professional dance ensemble presents Georgian traditional music and dance performed with traditional costumes and musical instruments including the panduri, doli, and salamuri. The dance forms from this mountain region have a unique style that rivals ballet in its demanding and refined technique, elegance, and graceful movement. Concerts can include the power and beauty of the 25-member dance ensemble, resplendently adorned in traditional costume.
Men’s Choir “Zekari”
Our men’s choir follows a long tradition of men’s groups in Georgia singing regional polyphonic folk and religious songs. The pristinely beautiful Georgian polyphonic singing tradition has been recognized by UNESCO as a human masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage since 2001. Our performers have been featured at Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Lotus World Music & Arts Festival, Brooklyn Roots Festival, Jacob’s Pillow, BAM, and Queens Theater in the Park, among others.

Our Georgian music and dance ensemble was formed more than 23 years ago and includes immigrant professional singers and musicians who have learned and performed since childhood in the country of Georgia. Our programs are for both the Georgian community and the general population.
Community Connection
Dancing Crane’s programs and cultural center provide a much-needed opportunity for Georgian immigrants to gather and share experiences through our many events, classes and performances. Children learn to integrate their heritage with their life in New York City. Our outreach efforts bring Georgian culture alive within the New York arts community.
